(un)Monument(al)

Sketches:

Manifest Art (1).JPG
Initial sketches were based off of John Gast's American Progress. These sketches eventually developed into the relief sculpture-type monument.

Manifest Art (2).JPG
The front view of the monument depicts Liberity reaching out towards the next frontier.

Manifest Art (3).JPG
The back of the monument reads Commander Neil A. Armstrong's famous quote from the Apollo 11 mission: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Manifest Art (4).JPG
Large bits of jagged moon rock stick out of the side of the monument to represent the untamed wilderness that is the moon.

Manifest Art (5).JPG
This sketch shows the monument in relation to both the President Grant Memorial as well as the U.S. Capitol. Its size is approximately to scale with the Grant Memorial.
